Long weekend in the Black Hills, Mt. Rushmore, Badlands National Park, and Crazy Horse Mountain.
Get to know your fellow international students on our first and most popular excursion for the year! Along the way, you will enjoy amazing scenery and landscapes, learn about Native American history, and see South Dakota’s most famous monument, Mount Rushmore. If we are lucky, you might even get to see some buffalo and other wildlife like the wild jackalope.
December 4
Day trip to Minneapolis/Mall of America.
America’s 16th largest metropolitan area, Minneapolis, Minnesota, is a favorite weekend vacation destination for Augustana students. Explore the city (mostly connected by Skyway) and shop at the Mall of America, the largest shopping mall in the United States, complete with an aquarium, theme park, 14 movie screens, and more than 400 stores.

Trip to Las Vegas during J-Term Break!
Trip to Las Vegas during J-Term Break!
Fly on Sioux Falls' budget airline, Allegiant Air, and spend two nights in a hotel on the Las Vegas Strip. Those 21 and older can enter casinos, though everyone will enjoy seeing the sites in Las Vegas. You can also choose to an optional day trip to the Grand Canyon.

Nobel Peace Prize Forum in Decorah, Iowa
Five Lutheran colleges, including Augustana, alternate hosting the Nobel Peace Prize Forum. The colleges, all founded by Norwegian immigrants, sponsor the forum to give recognition to Norway's international peace efforts and to offer opportunities for Nobel Peace Prize laureates, diplomats, scholars, and the general public to share in dialogue on the dynamics of peacemaking and the underlying causes of conflict and war. It is tradition for the previous year’s Nobel laureate to speak at the forum, meaning that President Barack Obama will be invited this year.

Ski Trip to Whitefish, Montana
During Spring Break, the Augustana Outdoor Club will travel by car and by Amtrak train to two mountain resorts, Whitefish and Blacktail, for skiing, snow shoeing, and nature-loving. Lodging will be provided by Flathead Lutheran Camp.
April 9
Omaha, Nebraska: The Henry Doorly Zoo and Old Market
Located three hours south of Sioux Falls, Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo is one of the best in the U.S. After the zoo, we will explore the Old Market area with lots of fun restaurants, parks, and entertainment.
