Residential Communities
Augustana offers a wide variety of student housing options, including 16 Theme House communities, 5 Apartment communities, and 6 traditional Residence Hall communities. In total, the Augustana residential community houses over 1200 students, or about 74% of our total enrollment.
Apartments
Our 5 Apartment Communities are located on the periphery of campus and are reserved for third and fourth-year students. The Duluth Place Apartments, Norse Inn Apartments, Schoeneman Apartments, and Summit Avenue Apartments provide housing for approximately 90 students. The Costello Hall Apartments provide housing for about 23 students, most of which are adult learners or students with families.
Apartment Liaisons are student staff members who provide a contact for daily apartment concerns related to transitioning in and out of the apartments, maintenance, housekeeping, policy, or programming needs. Three Apartment Liaisons are staffed throughout our Apartment Communities, with one each in the Summit Avenue and Duluth Place Apartments, and the third serving as the contact for the Costello Hall, Norse Inn, and Schoeneman Apartments.
Residence Halls
First-year students are housed in two halls, Bergsaker Hall and Solberg Hall. Both are located on the south side of campus and provide housing for approximately 420 students.
Second, third, and fourth-year students are housed in four halls; East Hall, Granskou Hall, Stavig Hall, and Tuve Hall. These four halls are located on the north end of campus and provide housing for about 590 students.
Our Residence Halls are staffed by students and professionals who are here to help you make the most of your residential experience. Peer Advisors (PA) are second, third, and fourth-year students who have been carefully selected and trained to assist the residents of each floor, promote strong and healthy living communities, and provide opportunities for floor and building interaction and social development. Hall Directors are professional staff members who reside in each Residence Hall and manage daily operations, supervise the PA staff, and serve as on-call emergency contacts for our residential communities throughout campus.
Theme Houses
Our Theme House Communities are also reserved for third and fourth-year students with a strong desire to engage the Augustana and Sioux Falls communities in service learning and volunteer projects throughout the academic year. Our Theme Houses house approximately 100 students in 16 different houses.
Each Theme House identifies one of their members to serve as a Theme House Liaison who is their connection to Housing, Facilities, and the Dean of Students Office. Additionally, there are four Theme House Designates, professional staff members from Residence Life and Housing who are assigned to several houses each to provide additional guidance and support for each Theme House.
