    March 11: Violist, Sioux Falls Native Sabina Thatcher to Play with College & Community Orchestra

    Sioux Falls native and principal violist of The St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, Sabina Thatcher, will play with the Augustana College & Community Orchestra for their spring concert at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 11, at the Washington Pavilion. Thatcher once played with the SD Symphony Youth Orchestra and The Augustana Orchestra while attending high school and is returning for her first concert in South Dakota after many years. The program will feature Vaughan Williams' Suite for Viola and Orchestra, Liszt's Les préludes and Shostakovich's Symphony No. 9.

    March 8 - April 14: Eide/Dalrymple Features Alice Leora Briggs' Juárez Works

    The Eide/Dalrymple Gallery will host their latest exhibit, "Alice Leora Briggs: Near Impunity," on display from Thursday, March 8, to Saturday, April 14. A gallery reception is scheduled for 5-7 p.m., Friday, March 9, with the Artist's Talk set to begin at 6 p.m. In addition, Alice Leora Briggs will speak at a special presentation on Juárez at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 8, in the Kresge Recital Hall. All events are free and open to the public.

    March 5 - May 26: 'Interpretations of Wounded Knee' Exhibit on Display in CWS

    “Interpretations of Wounded Knee 1973 and 1890,” an exhibit commemorating the 40th anniversary of the occupation of Wounded Knee in 1973 will be on display in the Madsen/Nelson/Elmen Galleries of the Center for Western Studies’ Fantle Building March 5-May 26.

    March 5-6: Jazz on the Upper Great Plains

    The Augustana Northlanders Jazz Band, along with bands from 30 area high schools and middle schools, will perform along with world-famous saxophonist Mark Colby and Matt Niess, lead trombonist with the U.S. Army Blues Jazz Ensemble, at the 38th-annual Jazz on the Upper Great Plains Festival March 5-6.

    March 1-3, 8-10: Spring Musical 'Zombie Prom'

    The Augustana Theatre Department's spring Main Stage musical, Zombie Prom, will run March 1-3 and 8-10 at 7:30 p.m. This student-designed production brings the "fabulous fifties" back to life — and a few other things that should have stayed dead. The show, by John Dempsey and Dana P. Rowe after a story by Dempsey and Hugh M. Murphy, tells the story of teenage love gone horribly wrong and is approved for the whole "nuclear" family.

    March 1-3: 2012 Peace Prize Forum in Minneapolis, Choir to Perform

    The 2012 Nobel Peace Prize Forum will be held on the campuses of Augsburg College and the University of Minnesota's Humphrey School for Public Affairs in Minneapolis, Minn., March 1-3. Registration is open to the public and is available online. The Augustana Choir, under the direction of Russell Svenningsen and Dr. Weston Noble, will also be performing at the Closing Ceremony at 4:00 p.m., March 3, in the Ted Mann Concert Hall where they will premiere a commissioned work dedicated to the Forum.

    Feb. 29: A Conversation With Porter Williams

    In celebration of Black History Month, local sculptor Porter Williams will discuss his artistic influences and reflect on what it was like to grow up as an African-American in Sioux Falls and the route he took to become a professional artist. His discussion, "A Conversation with Porter Williams," will begin at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 29, in Kresge Recital Hall. The event is free and open to the public.

    Feb. 25: SD FIRST LEGO League Championship

    More than 500 students from 62 teams across South Dakota will compete in the third annual South Dakota FIRST® LEGO® League Championship on Saturday, Feb. 25, in the Elmen Center. The event will feature a special video tribute to Dr. Dan Swets, Kevin Anderson and Joshua Lambrecht, league leaders who were killed in a plane crash late last year.

    Feb. 19: Third Sunday Archeology to Discuss Pre-Incan Chavín Temple

    The Third Sunday Archeology Program will feature Dr. Matthew Sayre, assistant professor of anthropology at the University of South Dakota. His talk, "Life at Chavín de Huántar, A 3,000-Year-Old Temple in Peru," will be presented at 2 p.m., Feb. 19, 2012, in the Gilbert Science Center Auditorium (GSC #100) at Augustana College.

    Russell Svenningsen, instructor of music and director of the Collegiate Chorale, will perform Franz Schubert's Winterreise at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 18 in Kresge Recital Hall, accompanied by Debra Reid.
